As an employee, if you want to succeed within the company, and excel outside the company, it’s wise to try to make your boss look good. That translates into not undermining your boss and to always appear as though you are contributing to the common good of the team. Often, it is apparent to others when an employee is trying to undermine his boss. Unless the work environment is competitive, respect for the employee will diminish (unless the boss is not well liked – then you might find others assisting you in undermining your boss). Even if you are successful in undermining your boss, it might backfire on you in the long run, as other managers will hesitate to work with you and you might develop a poor reputation.
